RAIL VEHICLE MAINTENANCE
Railways Workshop Equipment
Sam Technology Engineers has developed a range of railway individual workshop equipment and has developed total maintenance facilities for end users. Equipment for locomotive, passenger and bogie repair facilities can be customised to the end user requirements. Many of these facilities have been supplied to a turn key basis after consultation with the client.
Our equipment features a modular design to minimise site assembly and installation period. Equipment is P.L.C. controlled and can be integrated into SCADA systems.
Railway Workshop equipment can be categorised into 4 main workshop types:
Individual equipment includes:
- Jacking Systems
- Body Support Stands
- Under Floor Jacking (screw)
- Mobile Jacks
- Hydraulic Rip Jacks
- Bogie Lift Tables
- Turntables (wheel set, bogie and locomotive)
- Carriage and Bogie Wash Plants
- Towing Systems
- Inspection Equipment
- Rail Brakes
- Shunting Vehicles
- Drop Tables
- Special Purpose Inspection and Maintenance Equipment
- Turn Key Maintenance Shops.
- Traversers
- Pantograph and Air Condition Roof Overhead Maintenance System
Sam Technology has also been engaged to retro fit and update equipments. This includes full inspections, mechanical and electrical overhaul of jacks and other pieces of aging equipment. Work is in accordance with AS2550, AS1418 and other local standards.
Wagon Workshops
One Spot Workshops have been designed to repair rakes of wagons on a siding to the mainline. The system results in a minimum of downtime and allows the rake of wagons to be quickly returned to service.
This type of workshop can consist of many different types of equipment to ensure the job gets done quickly. This equipment includes:
- Winch Type Towing Systems
- Track Brakes
- Hydraulic Rip Jacks
- Drop Tables
- Derailers
- Services Booms
- Light Maintenance Hoists
- Crane Systems
- Safety Interlock Systems
- Body Supports.
Locomotive Workshops
Locomotive workshops consist of:
Drop Tables with Automatic Positioning
- A Bogie Drop Table system is required when maintenance is needed on a single bogie. This system is utilised when time or technical constraints do not allow the individual car to be separated from the main train or when maintaining locomotive wheel sets.
Bridges
Security and Control Systems
- Sam Technology design and install main control systems which monitor and control the maintenance equipment used in maintenance workshops.
Body Support
- These are independently driven translational screws which are raised to support the wheel once the vehicle has been lifted. During normal use they are static support columns to allow bogie removal, however the rating is such that in emergency situations the vehicle can be raised using the support stands. Each stand is individually powered as this allows each to find the correct level of support irrespective of any required differential in travel between stands.
Passenger Workshops
Passenger Car workshops can consist of the use of the below equipment individually or a combination of them
Above ground screw jacks
In floor pit type jacks
- The in ground Lifting system commonly known as Pit Jacks are capable of rapidly lifting the entire train. The system aids underneath vehicle inspection. It can be
combined with bogie supports to allow the bogie sets to be lowered for block change.
The lifts are mounted in a pit within the workshop floor with suitable automatic covers that close flush with the surface, allowing the entire workshop surface to be used when not in operation.
Individual bogies are selectable from the control console
allowing any length of train or any combination of cars or
bogies to be worked on.
Towing systems
- This arrangement is suitable for repetitive operations, (wagons of complete rakes of 1500 tonnes and over), enables precise positioning, passage over a weigh bridge, feeding a rocker, etc. and is adaptable to most track gauges in use. It can obviously be included as part of a complete automation system.
Body supports
- Each body support is independently driven and sensed allowing each to find the correct support height for the raised vehicle irrespective of the vehicle attitude to the floor. The rating if each support stand is increased to accommodate the off centre loading which can occur whilst utilising the longitudinal adjustment facility.
Bogie Repair Workshops
Sam Technology has supplied miscellaneous equipment
for bogie workshops. The equipment has been integrated
into progression systems. The total turnkey progression
system is also available from Sam Technology.
Equipment includes;
- Screw Jacks
- Rotators for Welding
- Wheel Presses
- Parts for Wash Plants
- Bogie Wash Plants
- Progression Systems
- Wagon Rotators for Welding
Miscellaneous Equipment
- Overhead Platforms
- Miscellaneous Towing Systems (Rabbit, chain, Axle)
- Carriage Wash Plants
- Shunting Vehicles
- Bogie Wash Plants
- Turntables
